What is ICCIDD?
The International Council for the Control of Iodine Deficiency Disorders
is a non-profit, non-government organization for the sustainable elimination of iodine deficiency and the promotion of optimal iodine nutrition worldwide.

World Declaration and Plan of Action for Nutrition: This declaration comes out of the International Conference on Nutrition held in 1992 and outlines many aspects of the action plan for nutrition. Includes issues of iodine fortification and supplementation (p.27-30).

A copy of the original declaration with signatures. It was the result of the "Reunion Regional sobre la Universalizacion de la Yodacion de la Sal para la Eliminacion de los Desordenes por Deficiencia de Yodo en las Americas" which details the problems associated with IDD and the rights of people in the region and responsibilities of the government and other officials towards the provision of iodized salt. It is signed by 42 high-level people from 36 countries: Ecuador, Brasil, Argentina, Venezuela, Bolivia, Columbia, Chile, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay, Guyana; Costa Rica, Cuba, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama; Haiti, Republica Dominicana; Estados Unidos, Canada; Bangladesh, China, India; Belgium, España; Algeria, Cameroon, Ethiopia, Mali, Mozambique, Nigeria, Zaire, Zimbabwe. Representatives from WHO, UNICEF, and the ICCIDD also signed.

Narino Accord:

This accord includes a preamble, an outline of the situation in the Americas, and a reaffirmation of commitment to the goals in the areas of health and nutrition: including, iodized salt, drinking water and environmental sanitation, education, civic rights and follow-up evaluation. Also included are institutionalization plans, decentralization, state action and social participation plans, finance and international cooperation, regional follow-up and final considerations.
