John B Stanbury was the first Chair of ICCIDD. His life and work span the 20th Century and his contributions are the things of legend. He latest book, The Iodine Trail, published by Oxford University Press, tells his story of working in various parts of the world beginning in the 1980’s, the people involved in the work, the results obtained in an easy to read memoir.
In his introduction to the book, Dr. Leslie H De Groot, sums up the story of the iodine trail of John Stanbury well:
“Told in a series of reminiscences, we experience the observations of an astute and experienced traveler with a scientific goal. We learn much about the people and places, their customs, and some of the dangers of t ravel through the eyes of an understanding and sympathetic observer. While this book is a personal remembrance of journeys to far corners of the globe, its final message is the extraordinary effort that has gone into bringing proper iodine nutrition to millions of people.”
