Central Asia advances against IDD

On October 29-30, about 100 nutrition experts will be meeting in Kazakhstan in the Third Almaty Forum on Food Fortification, brought together by the Asian Development Bank, Turkish Weekly reports.  ADB has led a 6-country assault on iodine deficiency and inadequate dietary iron, investing $8.8 million (US) since 2001 in projects in Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Mongolia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. The Japan Fund for Poverty Reduction has been the main donor.   All six countries have enacted laws requiring USI.
