Earlier, the proposed new food standard for the mandatory fortification of the food supply with iodine was replaced by one requiring iodized salt only for use in breads, breakfast cereals and biscuits (i.e. cookies).

In response to the additional information obtained, FSANZ is now planning to refine the Final Assessment before consideration by the FSANZ Board in July 2007 to remove biscuits and breakfast cereals, leaving bread as the only source of additional?iodine-fortified salt?.

Public comments will be accepted until June 6th.
