Vietnam has worked hard to achieve USI and virtual elimination recognizes the need for persistent, professional and prompt monitoring to maintain success. As this
new report indicates, there are places in the country not yet sufficiently protected. As a result of a good monitoring system, this situation was recognized quickly and addressed promptly.
"From the recently released data we learn that the proportion of the population using iodized salt is decreasing”, said Dr. Jean-Marc Oliv, WHO Representative in Vietnam. “After years of very successful programming in the country, this major public health problem appeared to be under control. The recent data however show that we must remain vigilant in our monitoring and control of IDD in Vietnam, to ensure complete and sustained elimination.”
