Iran has a achieved -- and sustained -- iodine sufficiency, a new study published in Acta Medica Iranica reports.  The principal investigator for the study is ICCIDD regional coordinator Fereidoun Azizi.

Iran first achieved the WHO/UNICEF/ICCIDD indicators for sustained IDD control back in 1996.  Its monitoring program has confirmed this status every 5-6 years.  The report recommends "mandatory iodized salt consumption in certain situations."
