The Hindu carried an IDD story Sunday noting that production targets for iodized salt have been reached, but 51% of the population is still not choosing to use iodized salt. B. K. Tiwari, Adviser for the National Iodine Deficiency Disorder Control Programme (NIDCCP) argued that governments should subsidize distribution in areas without available iodized salt and that new public education efforts be undertaken to promote consumer acceptance.
